Peripheral Retina Case Studies

Examination of the peripheral retina in a primary care ophthalmic setting can reveal a significant number of patients with signs of peripheral retinal degeneration. While some of these peripheral degenerations are benign others significantly increase the risk of Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment (RRD).

This article provides a brief review of the conditions that increase the risk of retinal detachment and includes 4 case studies. These case studies highlight the importance of taking an accurate patient history, and how to determine whether referral to secondary specialist care is required.
