It's a Material World - Past, Present & Future

This lecture was filmed live at The Eyecare3000 Contact Lens and Anterior Eye Day - September 2010

Advances in contact lens and lens care technologies over the last few decades have further improved the safety and efficacy of contact lens wear. Even with the improved oxygen transmissibility of silicone hydrogel materials and the ease-of-use and more effective disinfection of today's lens care solutions, some adverse responses with contact lenses still occur. As such, the use of antimicrobial surfaces and materials for contact lenses, and lens cases, is being explored in an effort to further enhance the safety profile of contact lenses.
